Some say it is lofty,
but I say
it is the grit of the world.
There are right things and wrong things,
and we are given to know the difference.
When our days are blessed,
we may choose between right and right.
When we are not so blessed,
then we must choose between right and wrong.
When we must choose between wrong and wrong,
those are the days that we curse the world and all its ills,
for the curse it has given us in such dark times.
By their virtue we know the good and kind from the cruel and terrible.
By our virtue we gain the respect of others and the love of our children.
By the virtues of our children do we grow old in happiness.
Some say
that virtue is air and light and no substance.
I say
that virtue
is all the substance there is.
Love
Courage
Truth
